In the film The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (directed by Peter Jackson, New Line Cinema, 2001), Gandalf reminds Frodo that in dark times everyone has a choice. When Frodo says, “I wish none of this had ever happened,” Gandalf says, “So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.”
