In 2 Samuel 7, we see both David (a king!) and Nathan (a prophet!) agree on what appears to be a righteous idea: building the temple. It’s important to note that although Nathan is advising David in the first part of the story, he is not fulfilling a prophetic role. He only speaks directly for the Lord later in the story, then stating the exact opposite of what \u003cem\u003eseemed\u003c\/em\u003e to be the right thing to do. Neither David nor Nathan sinned in sharing this initial idea, but it was still outside of the will of God, which was humbling. This is a good reminder that good ideas are not always God’s ideas.
