The Fireplace

The Fireplace
Illustrations for a godly sexual ethic are often presented awkwardly and can be a bit cheesy. But one that most people have heard and remains visually profound is that of a fire burning within a fireplace. The fire represents sex—powerful and alive. The fireplace is the place in which God designed sex to happen: marriage. The fire produces heat in the right situation. However, if the flames leave the protection of the fireplace, they become destructive and painful.
