When we do not follow the crowd of our generation, when we walk against the flow, we can experience suffering. If you were ever bullied for being different, you can understand how going a different way can cause others to shun you. The Christian life does not conform to this world and how it does things: it is different, just like Jesus was different. Being different can bring suffering, and Timothy will have to face that.
