Who is the Author?

The two books of Kings were almost certainly originally part of one book. Because the book of Kings shares the same themes and vocabulary as Joshua–Samuel, it is quite possible that each of these historical and prophetic books actually formed a single literary work in early Jewish history.1 Jewish tradition recognized Jeremiah as the writer of Kings, but this is probably not actually thecase.2 The internal evidence suggests that the book of Kings as we know it today was not written all at once by one author. Rather, the content of the book was probably compiled by multiple anonymous authors and redactors over an indefinite stretch of time.3
