Who is the Author?

The two books of Kings were almost certainly originally just one book. Because the book of Kings shares the same themes and vocabulary as Joshua–Samuel, it is quite possible that each of these historical and prophetic books formed a single literary work in early Jewish history.1 Internal evidence suggests that the book of Kings as we know it today was not written all at once by a single author. Rather, the content of the book was probably compiled by multiple authors and redactors over an indefinite stretch of time.2
