We willfully disobey God, but we’re also presumptuous. Verse 16 says, They and their fathers acted presumptuously. The same word appears again in verse 29: Yet they acted presumptuously.
What does that mean? Presumptuousness is rude, inappropriate, and shows little respect. It’s acting as if we have rights and privileges we don’t actually have. It’s walking into a place where we don’t belong, chest out, as if to say, I’ll do what I want—what are You going to do about it, God?
